Black Friday Janitor Cleaning Guide

A source-backed zone-by-zone Black Friday Janitor cleaning workflow for products, rubbish, spills and fallen objects, with final-task troubleshooting.

Black Friday Janitor combines four different cleanup jobs in one mall: misplaced products, rubbish, spills and fallen objects. The official Steam page describes more than 30,000 things to tidy, including 21,000+ products, 10,000 pieces of rubbish, 500 spills and 300 fallen objects.

At that scale, the biggest enemy is not difficulty—it is losing track of what you already checked. A repeatable zone workflow makes the remaining work easier to reason about.

The core cleanup loop

Use the same sequence in every bounded store or mall section.

1. Survey before moving anything

Walk the boundary and identify:

  • obvious product piles;
  • rubbish-heavy corners;
  • visible spills;
  • fallen furniture or display pieces;
  • store entrances and corridor transitions;
  • one clear place for uncertain products.

The survey prevents an uncertain product from being carried across the mall before you understand its local context.

2. Return obvious products

Solve the easy matches first. Keep uncertain products near the store or department where they were found.

Player reports consistently describe products as staying in or near the store they belong to. That makes a local-first search more efficient than crossing multiple wings for one mystery item.

This is player-supported behavior, not a developer-published radius value, so the guide does not claim an exact distance.

3. Clear rubbish and spills

Run rubbish and spill cleanup after most obvious product clutter is out of the way. A clearer floor makes small spills and loose trash easier to see.

In areas such as ABC Cinema, player reports describe rubbish and spills as the dominant work, so you can reverse the emphasis: clear dense rubbish early, then make a dedicated floor pass.

4. Reset fallen objects

Fallen furniture and objects are easier to miss because they can still look like part of the environment. Inspect chairs, signs, bins, plants, fixtures and display silhouettes from more than one direction.

5. Audit before leaving

Turn around and view the zone from the opposite direction. Re-check the task state and make sure any uncertainty pile is deliberate rather than forgotten.

Why one zone at a time works

A bounded zone gives every task a context.

Without a boundary, one uncertain item can send you across the mall, which creates another unfinished route behind you. With a boundary, the rule is simple: finish the current store or subsection as far as evidence allows, record what remains, then move on.

Good boundaries include:

  • one storefront;
  • one supermarket department sign;
  • one cinema room;
  • one corridor segment;
  • one side of a department store;
  • a named in-game mall area.

Use the mall map planner to keep the names consistent across sessions.

How to search for the last product

When one product appears to be missing:

  1. recheck the store threshold;
  2. walk both sides of nearby displays;
  3. inspect endcaps and the back of tall fixtures;
  4. look through your uncertainty pile;
  5. compare visually similar products;
  6. search the nearby corridor before leaving the store cluster;
  7. only expand the search after local possibilities are exhausted.

Patch v1.0.4 also matters because Gather was changed to be much less likely to pull a shared item from another store. That reduces one source of confusion on current builds.

How to search for the last rubbish or spill

Do not mix task categories during the final audit.

For rubbish:

  • trace walls and corners;
  • check seating;
  • inspect around counters and bins;
  • look behind dense props.

For spills:

  • wait until obvious rubbish is gone;
  • scan the floor in parallel passes;
  • change the camera angle where reflections or lighting hide marks.

A visually clean shelf area does not prove the floor tasks are complete.

How abilities should fit the route

The official store page confirms that abilities can be unlocked and strengthened. Abilities should reduce repeated actions inside a good route, not replace the route.

For example:

  • use Gather when the destination store is already known;
  • use carrying improvements to reduce shelf trips;
  • use stronger rubbish collection in rubbish-heavy areas;
  • use movement improvements when travel remains unavoidable.

The abilities and leveling guide separates developer-confirmed mechanics from player reports.

How to stop a long session cleanly

The game is designed around a cleanup too large to finish in one sitting. Before quitting:

  • finish one bounded subsection;
  • return unresolved products to one visible staging spot;
  • note the next store or landmark;
  • record which task type still remains;
  • avoid stopping in the middle of several mixed locations.

A clean stopping point prevents the next session from beginning with a memory test.

Common route mistakes

Carrying a mystery item too far

You lose the location evidence that came with where it was found.

Mixing several unfinished stores

You create multiple uncertainty piles and cannot tell which completion state is blocking progress.

Treating a tidy shelf as a completed store

Rubbish, spills or fallen objects may still remain.

Changing several settings or abilities at once

You cannot tell which change actually improved the workflow.

Rechecking the whole mall for one local problem

Use store and area task states to keep the search bounded.

Evidence and limitations

Developer-published: the four task types, official scale of 21,000+ products / 10,000 rubbish / 500 spills / 300 fallen objects, and upgradeable abilities. Developer patch evidence: v1.0.4 adjusted Gather’s cross-store selection. Player-reported: products generally remain close to their store and large locations benefit from stronger abilities. Editorial strategy: the survey → products → cleaning → reset → audit order. It is a workflow recommendation, not a hidden game requirement.
