Black Friday Janitor Items and Task Types
Source-backed overview of Black Friday Janitor products, rubbish, spills and fallen objects, plus rules for building reliable store/item reference data.
“Items” can mean several things in casual discussion, but Black Friday Janitor’s official description separates the workload into four task categories. Keeping those categories distinct makes route planning and final-task troubleshooting much easier.
Official task categories
| Type | Official description | Published scale |
|---|---|---|
| Products | Misplaced products to return to the correct spots | 21,000+ |
| Rubbish | Trash to collect | 10,000 |
| Spills | Dirt/spills to clean | 500 |
| Fallen objects | Furniture or objects to set upright | 300 |
These figures come from the official Steam store description.
The total advertised scale is more than 30,000 things to tidy, which explains why a single undifferentiated checklist is not practical.
Products
Products are the largest category and the most information-heavy.
For a reliable product entry, the wiki needs more than a screenshot of the object. Useful evidence includes:
- exact in-game label when available;
- confirmed store;
- department or shelf family;
- visual identifier;
- placement context;
- game version;
- date reviewed.
Color alone is not enough because v1.0.4 confirms that some items have color variants and a few items can be shared across stores.
Use the store product reference for currently documented public screenshot evidence.
Rubbish
Rubbish is a separate task class, not simply “anything on the floor.”
During a final audit:
- trace walls;
- inspect seating;
- check counters and bins;
- look behind displays;
- recheck high-clutter spaces.
ABC Cinema is a useful example because official imagery shows dense concession litter and player reports describe the theater as rubbish-heavy compared with normal product stores.
Spills
Spills are easier to see after larger clutter is removed.
A dedicated spill pass is useful because:
- products can visually obscure floor marks;
- rubbish can distract from small patches;
- lighting and reflections can hide edges;
- a store can look “organized” while a cleaning task remains.
The official description publishes 500 spills across the game, but does not publish a store-by-store spill table.
Fallen objects
Fallen objects include furniture or other objects that need to be set upright.
They can be missed because a fallen fixture may still look like environmental decoration.
Inspect:
- chairs;
- signs;
- bins;
- display fixtures;
- plants or decorative objects;
- furniture silhouettes from another camera angle.
The published figure is 300 fallen objects.
How the four categories should share one route
A practical sequence is:
- survey the bounded zone;
- solve obvious products;
- collect rubbish;
- clean spills;
- reset fallen objects;
- run a final category-by-category audit.
The order is editorial strategy, not a developer scoring rule.
The cleaning guide explains why separating the final audit by task type reduces missed work.
Why the site does not publish a giant product database yet
A large database is valuable only if its rows are trustworthy.
A low-quality table with thousands of guessed item/store pairs would create more player confusion than no table at all.
The minimum record for future product entries is:
| Field | Evidence standard |
|---|---|
| Display name | In-game label or unambiguous visual ID |
| Store | Sign/location reproduced in-game or strong official screenshot evidence |
| Department | Visible sign or reproducible shelf grouping |
| Placement | Shelf/fixture description another player can repeat |
| Color variants | Counted in a known save/version |
| Source | Screenshot, direct observation or developer source |
| Reviewed | Date + game version |
Unknown fields should remain unknown.
How patches affect item data
v1.0.2 and v1.0.3
The developer fixed mislabeled objects in early patches. A launch-week label screenshot may therefore be outdated.
v1.0.4
Affected multi-color items generate evenly in new runs, while old saves retain original colors. Gather also became much less likely to pull shared items from another store.
v1.0.5
Normal shelf placement was changed to back-to-front unless the item has multiple colors, and more item-label typos were fixed.
Version-aware item data is essential because the same shelf can look different across old and new footage.
What should you do with an unknown product?
Keep it in the local zone.
Record:
- where it was found;
- nearby store;
- likely product family;
- nearby shelf gaps;
- whether similar products exist locally.
Do not carry it across the mall based only on shape or color.
The organization guide provides a three-state obvious / likely / unknown workflow.
Can the official task counts predict exact achievement timing?
No.
The published workload scale and the Steam achievement thresholds are related to overall progress but are not a published internal counting formula.
Use the task progress guide for milestone handling instead of trying to derive exact counter behavior from the store description.
Evidence and limitations
Official: four task categories and their published scale. Developer patch evidence: object-label fixes, color-generation changes, shared-item/Gather behavior and shelf-order changes. Official screenshot evidence: some product families and department signs. Not yet complete: exact product list, all per-store inventories, per-shelf counts and deterministic item coordinates.
