Questions answered

What is the highest task milestone achievement?
A job almost done requires 30,000 completed tasks.
Was task achievement tracking patched?
Yes. The developer says v1.0.3 fixed an issue with the number-of-tasks-completed achievement.

Black Friday Janitor uses nine Steam achievements to mark total task progress. The thresholds run from the first completed task to 30,000, so they work best as checkpoints inside a normal mall cleanup, not as separate grind targets.

The game already asks you to complete stores and larger mall areas. A route that advances those goals will naturally advance the task counter too.

All task milestones

Completed tasks Achievement
1 First task complete
100 Passed probation
1,000 1K
5,000 5K
10,000 10K
15,000 15K
20,000 20K
25,000 25K
30,000 A job almost done

These requirements come from the public Steam achievement catalog.

The all-achievements guide contains the remaining store, area, level and full-mall achievements.

How large is the cleanup compared with the milestones?

The official Steam description advertises:

  • 21,000+ misplaced products;
  • 10,000 rubbish items;
  • 500 spills;
  • 300 fallen objects.

Those advertised categories total at least 31,800 cleanup interactions, but that arithmetic should not be treated as a guaranteed internal task-counter formula. The store page describes workload; the achievement requirement defines the milestone.

Use the actual achievement and in-game task state rather than trying to reverse-engineer the counter from the marketing totals.

Best way to progress the counter

Use a store-first or zone-first route:

  1. Pick one bounded store or mall section.
  2. Survey the area before moving uncertain products.
  3. Complete products, rubbish, spills and fallen objects in separate passes.
  4. Check the local task state.
  5. Move to the next store only when the remaining work is understood.
  6. Let the milestone achievements appear naturally as total progress accumulates.

This method advances multiple goals at once:

  • task milestones;
  • the 18 store-completion achievements;
  • four area-completion achievements;
  • experience/level progression;
  • the final full-mall goal.

The cleaning guide explains the task-by-task pass order.

Should you grind the next milestone?

Usually no.

If you are at 9,700 tasks, for example, it is more useful to keep finishing a real store than to search the mall for 300 easy actions only to trigger 10K. Store and area completion provide location context, while random counter chasing can scatter unfinished work.

A milestone is useful as a progress snapshot:

  • early run: confirms the counter is moving;
  • mid run: shows that normal cleanup is accumulating correctly;
  • late run: helps estimate how much broad cleanup remains;
  • final run: can expose a tracking problem if store/area completion and the counter disagree.

What changed in patch v1.0.3?

The developer’s v1.0.3 notes explicitly say an issue with the number-of-tasks-completed achievement was fixed.

That matters when comparing old videos or launch-week reports with current behavior. If a milestone does not unlock:

  1. confirm the game is fully updated;
  2. complete another clear, visible task;
  3. allow Steam time to process the achievement;
  4. save and exit normally;
  5. relaunch before making destructive changes.

Do not reset a long save or edit achievement data based only on one delayed Steam overlay notification.

What if the counter seems inconsistent with the advertised 30,000+ scale?

Keep three numbers separate:

  • the marketing-scale counts on the Steam store;
  • the achievement milestone threshold;
  • the current in-game store/area task state.

They answer different questions.

A store description saying “21,000+ products” does not guarantee that every visible interaction increments a Steam achievement counter in exactly the way you expect. The wiki therefore avoids publishing an inferred formula.

Late-run progress strategy

From 20,000 onward, shift attention from the global counter to unfinished locations.

A good late-run sequence is:

  • finish incomplete stores;
  • review the four named mall areas;
  • clear uncertainty piles;
  • make dedicated rubbish/spill passes;
  • inspect fallen objects;
  • then check whether the 25K and 30K milestones have appeared.

This is more reliable than wandering until the number changes.

Use the 100% completion checklist for the full audit.

Progress log template

For a long run, keep a lightweight note:

Field Example
Date 2026-09-27
Game version v1.0.5
Start milestone 15K unlocked
End milestone 20K unlocked
Stores cleared Record names
Area cleared Record if any
Problem observed e.g. delayed achievement
Retest result What happened after restart/update

You do not need to record every individual task. The goal is to make a tracking issue reproducible.

What not to do

  • Do not use third-party achievement unlockers to “test” a legitimate progress problem.
  • Do not reset a save before confirming current patch status.
  • Do not assume a missing overlay means the Steam achievement is absent.
  • Do not convert the advertised task totals into an undocumented counter formula.
  • Do not abandon a nearly complete store simply because the next global milestone is close.

Evidence and limitations

Confirmed by Steam achievements: the nine milestone thresholds from 1 through 30,000. Developer-confirmed: v1.0.3 fixed an issue with the number-of-tasks-completed achievement. Official store description: the published workload scale across products, rubbish, spills and fallen objects. Editorial strategy: treating milestones as passive checkpoints while store/area completion remains the primary route.
